A certificated practical, hands-on course covering the creation and interpretation of STR forensic DNA profiles.

Skilled DNA analysts are in demand to provide useful, accurate and cutting-edge DNA expertise which includes not only theoretical knowledge, but the ability to apply this to real-life crime scene investigation.

This is a hands-on course over two intensive weeks in which every delegate will examine evidence, collect samples, produce a number of DNA profiles and perform interpretation of selected profiles from our decades of international casework.

To ensure maximum hands-on opportunities and excellent tutor to student ratio, each course is limited to a maximum of 15 delegates.

The course covers the foundations of forensic biology, ensuring that all delegates have a sound grounding in key concepts, and then extends to the practical skills required to obtain a DNA profile. Finally, the course explores the scientific & forensic (legal) issues with the interpretation and presentation of forensic DNA analysis, drawing upon the extensive casework experience of the course lecturers and using over 20 years of international casework by staff of The Forensic Institute to provide the material for practice in the interpretation of real casework samples.

casework-tnOur team have international experience in casework for prosecution and defence, and years of crime laboratory experience.  The Course Leader is Professor Allan Jamieson, Director of The Forensic Institute who has published widely on Forensic DNA and other forensic issues including a book on DNA profiling jointly with Dr Scott Bader, also of The Forensic Institute.
